B I O
I grew up in Lee’s Summit, MO where I fell in love with clay in high school. I graduated in the Spring of 2019 with my BFA in ceramics and a minor in business from Northwest Missouri State University, and promptly moved to Lawrence, KS to get connected with the art community there and in Kansas City. My work combines the exploration of form and surface with an interest in creating functional pots.
Besides art, I enjoy spending time with my family and life partner, shopping, and taking care of my house plants. I also love to relax with hot baths, incense, or a mug of tea.
But for the most part, you can find me in the studio.

STATEMENT
I feel that objects with a function have a soul to them created through the physical connection we have with them and the value we place in them. Creating vessels for everyday use inspires a passion in me. The idea of a bowl or cup I made having a spot in someone’s home and a developed ritual attached to it gives me a sense of usefulness to the community I’m a part of. I find myself creating functional objects that are smaller and used on a more intimate scale and in a daily fashion, requiring direct and careful interaction from the beholder. In this way, I encourage an affectionate object and user relationship.
I find inspiration in how the surface of an object interacts with its form. Altering a form to create organic shapes presents a challenge of design that I find invigorating and desirable. I gravitate toward lines and patterns as my preferred decoration, lending whimsy and gesture to the surface. The colors I choose are an extension of my personality and I always feel that once the lines on a vessel have color, the piece comes alive. The decorative process itself is extremely meditative to me and is my favorite part of vessel making. The repetitive marks and required concentration encourages me to lose myself in the act of caring for and responding to the vessel in our own private conversation.
My work is an exploration and response from beginning to end in shape, pattern, and color. I hope to pass on the objects I’ve made to those who will appreciate them and make their own discoveries in the process of use.
